Although the backdrop to Caleta is known as Chipmunk Mountain, and there
is a lot of building work going on up there, the main part of the resort
is more or less level which makes exploring on foot easy.
There is no building work near Casa Mariposa!
The new
walkway is now complete between the Atlantic Centre, Caleta Harbour and
Costa Antigua which would make for a pleasant afternoon walk
with facilities for a refreshing drink or snack along the way.
If you preferred to walk one way only, taxis are
relatively cheap for the return journey.

The mountain itself is the traditional home of the island's chipmunks
(hence the name). They are little creatures similar to squirrels -
who live among the rocks. However, now that the hillside is being
developed, it is easier to find one near the walkway which runs along the
coast and links the two beach areas - although we did have one sitting on
a palm tree just outside our garden wall in March 2007 - see him in one of
the pictures in the photo galleries!
