Although Fuerteventura is the second largest of the
Canary Islands - and has the oldest history - it is less developed than its
neighbours, and has the longest beautiful, white, uncrowded beaches
providing seclusion and tranquillity not found on other islands.
The
clear blue Atlantic waters, where whales, dolphins, marlin and turtles are
all common sights, provide ideal conditions for
sailing, diving and fishing - which can all
be part of your self-catering holiday in
Casa
Mariposa.

A
drive to Corralejo in the north of the island is well worthwhile to see
the dunes
created by sand blowing in from the Sahara desert - just 60 miles away -
or to catch the ferry to the island's
nearest neighbour,
Lanzarote.
You
might be forgiven for thinking that the island has little to offer
apart from sun-bathing, but you’d be wrong!
Fuerteventura
(‘fuerte’ = strong, and
‘viento’ = wind) benefits from
off-shore winds that particularly attract wind-surfers.
Every July and August, the World Windsurfing Championships are held in
Fuerteventura.
You could try
windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, shark fishing, horse riding or
kiteboarding, explore beautiful blue lagoons and
volcanic hills, ..…
..... alternatively,
you could, of course, just lie back and soak up the sun on some of the best beaches in
the Canaries.

The links on the left will give you some more background information on
