The following facts and figures were published in the April 2007 issue of Fuerteventura Grapevine.

Unlike it's greener neighbouring islands, Fuerteventura remains virtually rain free all year round.  Any rain that does fall normally comes between December and February, and falls on average just 16 days per year.  There is a total annual rainfall of about 138 mm!!   Average daytime temperatures remain between 18oC - 26oC all year round and the average amount of sunshine is about 2900 hours, equating to 8 hours sun every day!!  The sea temperature (on the surface) fluctuates between 17oC - 23oC depending upon the time of year, which is slightly warmer than the average swimming pool.

The island is on the same latitude as Florida and Mexico and temperatures rarely fall below 18oC or rise above 24oC.   The average winter temperature in the shade is almost 70o Fahrenheit, although in the sun it can be much higher.

However, even Fuerteventura can have its off days -  so packing a jacket or sweater might not be a bad idea, particularly for the evenings.

Just look at the current temperature above and the weather chart below to see why so many people visit the Canaries every year - and all year round too!

One notable feature of Fuerteventura's weather  is the wind, which can range from completely calm to a slight, refreshing breeze or to the famous Calima which is a very strong wind blowing across from Africa.
