Caleta (also known as El Castillo or just Castillo) centres on holidays for families and couples so you won't find late night clubs or discos.

You certainly don't need to hire a car to enjoy a stay in Casa Mariposa as the centre of the resort is less than 10 minutes walk away, but there are many car hire firms with offices in Caleta if you would like to explore more of the island independently.  Some suggestions are on our Useful Links page.

There is a Tourist Information Office in the centre of the resort where you can find details of several places of interest to visit.  We have also left some brochures and flyers in the villa to give you an idea of what the island has to offer and some of our visitors have added their suggestions to the Visitors' Book.

Caleta is approximately half way down the east coast of the island so it makes a great base from which to discover more of what Fuerteventura has to offer.  Go north to Corralejo and see the famous sand dunes on the way to Baku Water Park (approximately 45 minutes drive).  Go south to La Lajita Oasis Park Zoo and continue on to the magnificent beaches of Jandia (also about 45 minutes drive).

Sotavento beach near Jandia will again be the venue for the Fuerteventura Windsurfing and Kitesurfing 2009 championships from 17th July - 2nd August.  Two large tents will provide some 6,000 sq ft of shade and will host a stage, kitchen, toilets, wi fi area and places of relaxation for athletes and spectators.  The largest tent, on the beach, will have simulators for those who want to experience windsurfing and kiteboarding without having to enter the water.

If you have not been to Caleta before, the links on the left will give you an idea of what to expect.
